Employee Spotlight - Rita Wood

Rita Wood

Job Title and Responsibilities:

ERP Support Specialist/GFEBS Tier II SSO

Focus on the GFEBS Reimbursable business process at the Army to accurately troubleshoot technical and functional issues on a daily basis.  Work daily with business customers to teach business processes, identify and resolve issues, understand business needs, and discover opportunities for improved efficiencies.

About Me:

I have had the pleasure of working for Thompson Gray, just celebrating my 2 year anniversary.  Prior, I was still on the GFEBS project with Accenture.  Federal Services, and Funds Management was new to me, coming from industry for 20+ years prior.  I worked for SAP as a corporate trainer and FI/CO certifier.  I worked for Price WaterHouse Coopers as a SAP Management Consultant on many challenging and exciting projects.  I started my career in financials and accounting for close to 10 years with Waste Management, where our SAP implementation started me down this path.

I am born and raised Chicago Suburbs, Illinois resident.  Where I am lucky to work remotely supporting USAFMCOM.  Dream came true to witness the Chicago Cubs win the World Series.

I have raised two children on my own.  My daughter is a sophomore at the University of Illinois, Chicago with a theater major and minor in Education.  To hopefully, pursue teaching Theater.  My son is focusing on his future after high school.  Our family includes one very large Maine coon cat and two recent rescue kitten additions.

I enjoy spending time with family and friends.  Please if everyone could include my family in their prayers.  My younger sister is fighting stage 4 Multiple Myeloma Cancer and I have been commuting between Chicago, DC, and her home in California to help.

Qualifications & Expertise & Achievements:

Professionally, I hold SAP Certifications in FI/CO.  I also am certified to teach and administer those certification exams.

Personally, my greatest achievement would be my two children.  Family and friends had their doubts, as I could not keep a house plant alive – but happily my daughter is 20, and my son soon to be 19.  So far, so good!

Memberships and Activities:

ASUG – Americas’ SAP User Group

DuPage County Food Bank – Interfaith Pantry.  Serves my home town.

DuPage PADS Overnight Housing Assistance Program – this program offers families and individuals a safe environment.  Interim (overnight) housing sites are open 365 days a year and located throughout my county.

The Linus Project. I make fleece blankets to donate to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or in need.  Named after Linus from the Snoopy cartoons that always had his security blanket

Getting to Know You:

What are three things still left on your bucket list?

  • Perform stand-up comedy routine
  • Police Ride-Along
  • Take a cooking course at the Cordon Bleu in Paris but would settle for the Chicago campus.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?

The Ice Hotel in Jukkasjärvi, Sweden – because it looks cool (get it? Ice hotel / cool).  I think it would be beautiful, unique, and a once-in-lifetime vacation.  I’d also want to experience the Aurora Borealis during the visit.  I think it would magical!

If you could chat with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be and what would you talk about?

Robin Williams.  To ask him:  why?  And to ask, if he had any suggestions, or ideas to help people struggling with depression and mental health issues.  Why couldn’t he find the joy that he shared selflessly with so many others?  And, finally, to ask for a joke or some sort of comedic relief.
